11 February – Colombia and Venezuela – Peace, Migration and Unrest

Years of political turmoil in Venezuela peaked when Juan Guadió announced himself the new president and was quickly recognized by a number of world leaders, the regime of Nicholas Maduro seems to shake by its core. On the other side of the border, in Colombia, the 2016 peace deal between the federal government and the FARC is in a critical phase of implementation, with large groups of society still opposing it. The country is also facing a growing number of refugees fleeing the instability of Venezuela and it was early out to support Juan Guiadó as Venezuela’s President. How will the crisis in Venezuela affect the society and political climate in Colombia and will the liberal migration policies of Colombia last?
