The world was shocked when the news broke about the gruesome murder of the Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi inside the Saudi Arabian consulate in Istanbul. After first denying to have anything to do with the murder, Saudi Arabia finally confessed to being responsible. This sparked a global outrage and actions, like cancelled arms deals, have been taken by a number of countries. Although at first expressing concern about the murder, President Trump has since defended the American ties to the arab kingdom as they are a key trading partner in the region. Has the killing had any real effects on Saudi Arabia’s relations with regional partners and global allies like the United States?
