9 November – Social Media and Politics: Democracy in the Digital Age

Over the past decade, social media use has become nearly ubiquitous in Western society and beyond – one quarter of the global population now has a Facebook account. Traditional power dynamics are shifting, and recent events signal that these changes leave public opinion – and liberal democracy more broadly – vulnerable to manipulation through online channels.
In this lecture, Michael Bossetta will explore the state-of-the-art in social media research to identify the key challenges and opportunities that social media platforms pose for contemporary democracies.
This lecture will be held in English.
