Are Britain leaving the European Union?
Preparations are being done for the upcoming historic referendum on Britain’s potential exit from the EU. By the end of 2017 we will know for sure. There is no doubt that the possible British withdrawal will have a huge impact on the future of the EU and the development of European cooperation.
The question of Britain’s cooperation with Continental Europe has for more than four decades been a toxic substance that left many wounds in the Conservative Party, the world’s oldest political party. The EU has often been called the Bermuda Triangle where many politicians sailed up and disappeared, including Margaret Thatcher, Europe’s first female prime minister.
Mr Evans is one of Britain’s most prominent parliamentarians. He has been Member of Parliament since 1992 representing the Conservative Party in the Ribble Valley constituency.
Mr Evans had previously held various ministerial posts in shadow cabinets, as well as served as Vice-Chairman of the Conservative Party. In June 2010 he was elected as Deputy-Speaker of the House of Commons, a position which he held until September 2013.
