Burkina Faso: September Coup d'État – A peoples defense of democracy

Sten Hagberg is Professor of Cultural Anthropology and Chair of Forum for Africa Studies, Uppsala University. He has conducted research in Burkina Faso (1988-) and Mali (2008-) on a wide range of themes, including dispute settlement, environment, development, violence, democracy, mass media and municipal politics.
Among his publications one notes ”Between Peace and Justice” (1998) and ”Poverty in Burkina Faso” (2001) and the edited volumes, ”Bonds and Boundaries in Northern Ghana and Southern Burkina Faso” (2000 with Alexis B. Tengan), ”Ethnographic Practice and Public Aid” (2009 with Charlotta Widmark), ”Inventing and Mobilising the Local” (2009), ”Engaging Anthropology for Development and Social Change” (2012 with Fatoumata Ouattara), and ”Resurser och politik i Afrika” (2014 with Gabriella Körling), plus many articles in international journals. Hagberg is also actively involved in media and other public outreach activities.
