The United States has been the singularly most important and powerful country since the end of the 2nd world war. Given the challenges that the US faces internally and in terms of emerging rivals, many anticipate an end to Pax Americana within the next few decades. On what grounds is this being predicted? Is the demise of American unipolarity a foregone conclusion or can US political leaders, together with allies and partners, shape future developments? And what, if anything, can be said about a world order after Pax Americana?
