The lecture will focus on the story of the genocide against The Tutsi, and the Rwanda’s journey of rebuilding after the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi through justice, forgiveness, healing, unity, and reconciliation, as well as good cooperation with good partners to reach the number of milestones/achievements through a transformation journey, with focus on social protection programs.
The lecture will elaborate on the complex societal issues that led to the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi and its wake, the difficulties in bringing together a society that had experienced unimaginable atrocities. Focusing on accountability, Rwandans were reconciled through a process of participatory justice which allowed members of each community to play a key role and ultimately led to justice, repentance, forgiveness, and national unity.

About the Lecturer:
Dr. Diane Gashumba today serves as the Ambassador of Rwanda to the Nordics residing in Stockholm, Sweden. Previously, she has served as the Minister of Health for Rwanda as well as Minister of Gender and Family Promotion and as Deputy Chief of Party for The Rwanda Family Health Project/Chemonics International and Technical Director for EGPAF.
She is a senior pediatrician, seasoned global health leader, and gender advocate. She is a former board member for Roll Back Malaria and Global Health Corps and former co-chair of the WHO Digital Health Advisory Group as well as the former President of the National Women Council.
