The Heritage of Mikhail Gorbachev’s Attempts to Reform the Soviet System

EKONOMIKUM HÖRSAL 1

September 21

18:15-19:30

When Mikhail Gorbachev entered the Soviet political scene in the mid-1980s, the world felt that the cold war was over. Gorbachev believed in a ‘Socialism with a human face’ and thought it was necessary and possible to reform the Soviet system to achieve this goal. He opened up for this to happen.

This seminar will look at political and economic policies under Gorbachev and trace what impacts they have had and what we can still see of it today.

The aim is also to highlight what system Gorbachev was actually taking over, and why it was so difficult to change.

Thanks for reading, we hope to see you soon
