**THE LECTURE IS POSTPONED**
Due to a family emergency, Mazin Albalkhi’s lecture “The War in Syria and the story behind it” has been postponed. We are currently working with Mazin to find a future date for the event that will be announced on our website and social media shortly.
We appreciate your understanding for this unfortunate situation and look forward to your future participation!

In March of 2011, the totalitarian Syrian regime was overthrown by revolutionaries demanding dignity and freedom for the people of Syria. Almost 7 years and several peace initiatives later, the war that has resulted in a death toll of approximately 1 million, 7 million refugees, 12 million internally displaced and 250 thousand detainees and counting is still ongoing. At this point, more than 10 international powers are directly and indirectly involved in what has turned out to be one of the most devastating conflicts in modern history.
For our first lecture of the semester, Mazin Albalkhi will be visiting UF to shed a light on what has happened in the Syrian revolution so far, the story leading up to it and the ongoing negotiations for the future. Mazin Albalkhi is a Human Rights advocate and team leader for The International Legal Assistance Consortium (ILAC). He is currently working for peacebuilding and the reconstruction of justice systems in Syria.
