Uttryck Magazine

Uttryck Magazine is UF Uppsala’s award-winning publication, and as a member, you’ll receive three issues each year as part of your membership. The magazine is divided into two sections: the printed version and the web version. The online edition features all the articles from the print edition, as well as exclusive content.

The magazine is bilingual, offering articles in both Swedish and English. We cover a variety of topics, including interviews, opinion pieces, and chronicles. We’re always looking for new contributors, whether you’re a writer, illustrator, or digital content creator. If you’re passionate about magazines, we’d be happy to have you join our team.

The magazine is politically and religiously independent and the opinions expressed in the articles are from our contributors.

Become an Uttryck Trustee

Each year, UF Uppsala recruits Uttryck Trustees to help with the creation and organization of content for our publication. Trustees collaborate with the Editors-in-Chief and contribute in different areas, including writing, editing, layout, and video production. The role requires commitment, creativity, and a strong interest in global affairs.

By May, UF Uppsala elects the new board for the following year, and you may have the opportunity to become the next Editor-in-Chief.

What We Look for in Trustees

We are looking for responsible and motivated individuals who enjoy working with others. Whether your interest lies in writing, editing, layout, or video production, there’s a role for you.

Editors

As an editor, you will help with the printed edition of Uttryck. This includes managing communication with writers, planning tasks, and editing articles. You may also be involved in layout or writing content. The role requires teamwork and attention to detail.

Layout Editors

As a layout editor, you will be responsible for designing the layout of the printed magazine using Adobe InDesign. You will work closely with the editorial team to ensure the magazine is visually appealing and well-structured. The position is more demanding close to print deadlines.

Video Producer

As a video producer, you will help create video and audio content for Uttryck’s digital platform. Your tasks will include working with contributors, planning content, and producing videos that complement the written articles.

Joining Uttryck as a trustee is a chance to contribute to the publication and gain experience in media production. If you are interested in being part of the team, we welcome you to apply.

Are you the next Editor-in-Chief?

The operational year at UF Uppsala begins on July 1st.

Each spring (April–May), applications for positions open through our website and social media channels. If your profile matches a role you’ve applied for, you’ll be invited for an interview. The Election Committee will then review candidates and nominate individuals for each position.

The final decision is made at the Spring Annual Meeting, where UF Uppsala members vote to elect the new board. Most roles include a seat on the board, giving you voting rights and a key role in shaping the association. Board members are expected to attend monthly meetings throughout the year.

Profile for a Editor-in-Chief

As Editor-in-Chief of Uttryck, you will lead the creation of the association’s member magazine. This role gives you the opportunity to shape the magazine, implement new ideas, and guide the editorial team through the process of turning concepts into the final printed product. Uttryck is published three times a year, and as Editor-in-Chief, you are responsible for maintaining the schedule and ensuring the magazine is filled with engaging content.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Providing individual feedback to writers.
  • Collaborating with your co-Editor-in-Chief to plan content and ensure smooth workflow.
  • Coordinating with the editorial team, including editors and layout managers.
  • Organizing events with contributors such as writers, illustrators, and layout designers.
  • Participating in board meetings and fulfilling board responsibilities.

The role requires strong leadership skills, organization, and a passion for writing and editing. You will have the chance to work with a diverse group of contributors from various backgrounds, providing valuable experiences in both creative and leadership roles.

Being Editor-in-Chief offers the opportunity to develop your writing, management, and organizational skills, all while contributing to a project that brings people together and fosters collaboration. Profile for a Web Editor-in-Chief

As Web Editor-in-Chief, you will manage the association’s web magazine, www.uttryckmagazine.com. Your role involves regularly publishing articles on topics related to social and foreign affairs, including interviews, reports, opinion pieces, and more. You’ll have the freedom to shape the direction of the website and its content, collaborating closely with the Editors-in-Chief and the editorial team. A new addition to the role is the development of Uttryck TV, offering exciting opportunities for creative expansion. Some board work is also part of the role.

Since the online magazine is relatively new to UF Uppsala, this position provides you with the chance to innovate, experiment, and introduce fresh ideas. Creativity and a passion for writing are essential, as you’ll be involved in all stages of content creation—from idea generation to final publication. You will also provide feedback to writers, inspire new contributors, and collaborate with others to produce compelling content.

Additionally, being comfortable with digital media and having strong communication skills is important. While experience with WordPress or web development is a bonus, it’s not a requirement. This position allows you to engage with a diverse range of people, learn about various topics, and contribute to a platform with great potential.
