Join Our Weekly Debates

At UF Uppsala, our debates aren’t just about the big issues—like whether Bananas should be Sweden’s national fruit—but also about exploring topics in geopolitics, culture, economics, justice, law, pop culture, media, climate, sustainability, philosophy, and much more.

It’s a great opportunity to practice critical thinking, sharpen your public speaking skills, and have fun engaging with others. Whether you’re presenting a topic or just participating as an audience member, you’ll develop valuable skills and make connections with people you can talk to about literally anything.

We love to unwind with drinks and socializing after each debate, so it’s not all about the serious stuff! Open to all members, it’s a relaxed environment where everyone can feel involved.

No need to pre-register—feel free to stop by and join us for a debate or simply to listen and learn. You can stay up to date and connect with us via our Facebook group.

If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to reach out!

Ideal profile for our team

Join the Debate Team at UF Uppsala

The Uppsala Association of International Affairs recruits Debate Trustees at the start of each operational year (around August/September). As a trustee, you’ll work closely with the Heads of Activity to organize debates, select weekly topics, and moderate discussions. This role requires creativity, dedication, and a passion for engaging with diverse ideas.

If you think you can defend why bananas should be Sweden’s national fruit or argue that all dogs should wear elf ears at Christmas—while also organizing meetings and making great coffee—you might be just what we’re looking for.

The Debate Club is a dynamic group of passionate individuals, and by joining as a trustee, you’ll tap into that energy and contribute to a vibrant community. It’s an excellent opportunity to grow not only as a speaker but also in your organizational and planning skills.

We’re looking for team members who:

  • Are dedicated and reliable in attending meetings and practices
  • Have some experience with Excel (or are willing to learn)
  • Are approachable, love working with people, and thrive in a team setting

If you’re ready to get involved and help create memorable debates for our members and guests, we’d love to have you on board!

The team 24/25
